Your Guide to Choosing the Right Chemical Dosing Pump

The accurate and precise dosing of chemicals is a critical step in the production process for several different industries. Even the slightest variation of a particular chemical can completely change a product or even make it unsafe to use.

People aren’t capable of administering the correct dosages of chemicals on such a massive scale. Thus, the importance of chemical injection pumps comes into play.

Chemical dosing pumps are designed to pump a very precise amount of chemical substances into a water, steam, or gas flow at a controlled and consistent rate.

However, there are a wide range of chemical dosing systems available on the market, so finding the right one for the job can be tricky. Below you can find our expert guide to choosing the correct chemical dosing system.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Chemical Dosing Pump

There are many factors to consider when deciding which chemical injection pump is the ideal choice for your particular application.

First and foremost, you need to select a pump that can provide a flow rate that is adequate for your needs. Larger robust pumps are designed to be able to pump chemicals at a much higher flow rate than smaller-sized pumps.

Of course, you also need to choose a pump that is compatible with the type of chemicals that your application needs. Check out Grundfos’s intelligent chemical metering pump selection tool to determine which pump model will work best for your application!

Benefits of Choosing the Right Pump

The most important thing a chemical metering pump has to offer is being a reliable, accurate, and safe solution. With the proper utilization of a chemical dosing pump, there will be no variation in your production process, ensuring that you will never have any faulty products due to an incorrect ratio of chemicals.

These features result in chemical savings and process up-time for the end user. Certain chemical-based products can become harmful if there is an imbalance or improper ratio of specific substances, and chemical metering pumps can prevent this from happening.

Types of Pumps from Grundfos

C&B Equipment offers a wide range of Grundfos-manufactured chemical injection pumps, all of which are some of the most accurate and dependable pumps available on the market. Below are some of their most popular options.

Tried and tested Digital Dosing™ solution

Grundfos SMART Digital dosing pump range, available since 2010, is recognized for its state of the art monitoring features that ensure dependable, safe, and economical dosing operations, and for its industry-leading accuracy.

The expanded range is now available in two size categories:

SMART Digital S

Max flow 8 gph (30 l/h); max pressure 232 psi (16 bar), max turn down

ratio 3000:1

SMART Digital XL

o Max flow 52.8 gph (200 l/h); max pressure 145 psi (10 bar), max turn

down ratio 800:1

The SMART Digital S DDA, DDC, and DDE and the SMART Digital XL DDA and DDE are all based on tried and tested Digital Dosing™ technology from Grundfos. They offer powerful, variable-speed motors, a universal power supply, and a full-PTFE diaphragm that meets the most demanding requirements for chemical resistance and durability. The pumps open up a broad range of dosing applications.

DDA: high-end solution for complex and demanding applications

The DDA is the pump for complex and demanding applications where the focus is on maximum process reliability. It offers FlowControl, pressure monitoring, AutoFlowAdapt, and integrated flow measurement. The package for industrial applications is rounded off by additional operating modes such as a week dosing timer and auto-deaeration.

DDC: optimal price-performance ratio

The DDC offers simple, intuitive click-wheel operation and a graphic LC display in more than 28 languages. All standard modes of operation and inputs/outputs such as analog control or output relay can be integrated into control systems. This pump is suitable for universal use thanks to features such as the SlowMode (anti-cavitation) function for highly viscous media and the straightforward calibration mode.

DDE: a cost-effective Digital Dosing™ solution

The DDE is a cost-effective entry-level model with all the benefits of Digital Dosing™ such as a maximum turn-down ratio of 1000:1 (max flow 4 gph or 15 l/h) and 800:1 (max flow 52.8 gph or 200 l/h) and smooth, continuous dosing.

The dosing rate is set using a logarithmic scale that runs from 0.1-100%. The model’s straightforward pulse control, external stop function, and empty level signal make it ideal for basic OEM applications. The SMART Digital XL DDE additionally offers an adjustable analog input.

Grundfos DME Digital Dosing pumps combine perfect precision with user-friendliness.
